Renewable Energy

Bear Head Energy is exploring the development of wind farms in Pictou and Guysborough Counties to produce the energy needed to power the Bear Head Energy hydrogen and ammonia production facility. The two wind farms combined would have 1,000 MW of generating capacity.

Bear Head Energy will use minimal electricity from Nova Scotia Power and will adjust its rate of hydrogen production to match the variability of its wind generation.

Meeting Domestic & Global Demand

Bear Head Energy intends to meet both global and domestic demand with its green hydrogen and ammonia production facility by:

  • Providing Canada and our allies, including Germany, clean energy that meets strict European Union standards for Green Hydrogen and Ammonia.

  • Creating a facility with the scale to be competitive on world markets. This will make hydrogen and ammonia available at the lowest possible cost for the local market.

  • Enabling the cost-effective distribution of renewable energy nationwide and globally.

Websters Corner Wind Farm

Bear Head Energy is exploring the development and operation of a wind farm near Websters Corner, Pictou County, Nova Scotia.

Key features of the Websters Corner Wind Farm:

  • 22,000-acre site

  • Approximately 100 wind turbines (5 MW each)

  • Will connect to existing NSPI 345 kV transmission line

A Preliminary Layout of Websters Corner Wind Farm is available here.

Preliminary Visual Simulations of the Websters Corner Wind Farm are available here.

An Overview of Bear Head’s Proposed Projects is available here.

Community Benefits

Bear Head Energy estimates it will spend in excess of $1 billion developing the Websters Corner Wind Farm.

  • $4.5 million

    annually in municipal taxes

  • 250 direct jobs

    during construction (2026 – 2028)

  • $100-$120 million

is expected to benefit the local community directly

  • 20-25 full-time permanent jobs

    during the operations phase

Forest Hill Wind Farm

Through a competitive Request for Application (RFA) process initiated by the Province of Nova Scotia, in 2022, Bear Head Energy was awarded 45,000 acres of provincially owned land in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia

Bear Head is in the early stages of assessing the feasibility of this project as part of the electricity supply to power our green hydrogen and ammonia production facility. More details will be provided once they are available.
